PEACE BOAT is planing its first purpose built ship, a revolutionairy design

PEACE BOAT’s ECOSHIP Project is the first purpose built ship and a transformational programme to construct the planet’s most environmentally sustainable cruise ship. PEACE BOAT is a non-government organisation that is working altruistic for peace, understanding, human rights, enviroment protection and sustainability. So it is only consequent to build an enviroment friendly ship, with less carbon footprint than existing vessels.
by Earl of Cruise
Will this vessel and its concept become reality, it will be a breakthrough in enviromental technology on the seas. It will be a lighthouse, hopefully awakening the yesterdays dreaming brickheads, who proclaim global warming is a communist conspiracy.

This is all the more interesting as the US just having withdrawn its responsibility for the climate and the environment on the G20 summit in Baden Baden , just as this Trump had cried out, loud enough to hear in the election campaign.
The ECOSHIP will be the platform for PEACE BOAT’s round-the-world educational voyage carrying 6,000 people per year. The ship will host exhibitions on green technology in up to 100 ports per year, serve as a floating sustainability laboratory contributing to research on the ocean, climate and green marine technology. The ship also will create awareness and encourage active engagement with the challenges embodied in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The ECOSHIP project is a new eco-friendly ship concept developed by OLIVER DESIGN and PEACE BOAT, the Japanese non-profit organisation that promotes human rights and environmental sustainability by organising peace voyages on chartered passenger ships.
PEACE BOAT gathered experts from different fields, including naval architecture, marine engineering, renewable energy, energy efficiency, maritime law, biomimicry and biophilia for an eco-friendly ship design workshop in Germany in April 2014.
The ECOSHIP concept was revealed by the company in December 2015 at the 21st Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, in Paris, France. The maiden voyage of the vessel is expected in 2020. Once built, the ship is expected to be the world's first ten-mast cruise liner.
At STX FRANCE they have designed a similar design study, EOSEAS, for an enviromental friendly cruise vessel. But that design was a Trimaran and appeared more like a huge sailing vessel with more than one deck above its weather deck.

The ECOSHIP is expected to carry approximately 5,000 people per year while hosting exhibitions on green technology in up to 80 ports each year. It will also be capable of serving as a floating sustainability laboratory, helping in research related to ocean, climate and green marine technology.

The ECOSHIP design is claimed to be the world's greenest cruise ship, the ECOSHIP has been innovatively designed by Oliver Design. The aero- and waterdynamic hull of the 55,000 GT environment-friendly vessel is inspired by the humpback whale. The non-toxic and anti-fouling coating of the hull is similar to a fish's skin.
The key aspects considered while designing the ship were to develop a high-performance vessel with least energy needs, a ship with no generator utility when alongside, and a vessel with better than standard air emissions and zero emissions into water. The design will maximise the re-use of wasted energy and reduce hotel load.
The vessel will be equipped with ten retractable wind generators, ten retractable photovoltaic sails, kinetic floors and a 6,000m² solar farm on its top deck. It incorporates a self-sustained garden that uses recycled garbage and wastewater. This will reduce the CO² emission by 40%.
The cabins have been designed to offer high comfort according to its biophilic architectural design wherein occupants are accommodated close to nature.
The ECOSHIP will operate on a future-ready hybrid engine, which will be capable of running on bio-fuels. Cleaner-burning liquefied natural gas (LNG) will be used as the main fuel for the engine. During low wind conditions, retractable wind generators and photovoltaic sails will help reduce the use of main fuel, utilising 20% lesser propulsion energy.

"The maiden voyage of the vessel is expected in 2020." Amoung the shipbuilders, Yoshioka Tatsuya, founder of the Ecoship-Project is in talks with, is Meyer Werft.
The vessel's propulsion system will also use alternative fuel generated from kitchen waste. The ECOSHIP will emit 40% lesser carbon while also eliminating NOx and SOx emissions, when compared to large ships powered by a standard propulsion system.
The heating and air-conditioning on the eco-friendly ship will be augmented by the recycled waste energy, which will be derived from the main engine of the ship, and will reduce electricity load by 50%.

The aerodynamic upper hull of the vessel will help conserve fuel while sailing. An air bubble hull lubrication system will be used to reduce the resistance between the hull and seawater. The ship will also be equipped with adaptive machinery to incorporate future eco-technologies.
The closed-loop water use system aboard the vessel will ensure the usage of rainwater, wastewater and seawater to irrigate the plants within the garden.

Ocean Liners in Movies or Films at Sea (updated Nov 2017)

For liners and the shipping companies movies and films had been a top marketing tool Movies or Films and liners at sea, had been intriguing me since I have read about in my youth in LUXUSLINER - BILDER EINER GROSSEN ZEIT by Lee Server ( THE GOLDEN AGE OF OCEAN LINERS ). But earlier, mot only since my first crossing, I was keen watching movies with liners in it, and disapointed, which was an understatement, when I realized the films have been made in a set ashore in some movie "factory". HISTORY - The Monster-ships that changed how we Travel at Sea

Our present days sea travel, with its `luxuries´ started with the Monster-ships after the turn from 19th to 20th century, and technical progress and innovations made us think "unbeatable" at sea ... This hybris and belive in the technological progress was destroyed when the TITANIC sank after its encounter off Newfoundland with an iceberg. HISTORY - The CUNARD - WHITE STAR Liner rms QUEEN ELIZABETH (1938-1972)

Over years, in my early youth, the QUEEN ELIZABETH was shaping my mind for the perfect ocean liner, despite having made my first experiences with a liner onboard the HANSEATIC (1), ex EMPRESS OF SCOTLAND, ex EMPRESS OF JAPAN. When leaning at the rail of HANSEATIC entering the port, my eyes where every where and I wished to by a camera, I took all in. And when seeing the QUEEN ELIZABETH with my own eyes, the nice behaving young boy turned into a tomboy, that my grandmére was no longer able to tame ... I did draw quite a lot of looks, back then. I found, while on research, this article and thought it interesting publishing in my blog: written and published by John Sheperd at liverpoolships.org editing and comments by Earl of Cruise I ( John Shepard ) joined the CUNARD LINE in March 1962 as an Assistant Purser and sailed the QUEEN ELIZABETH throughout that year, before transferring to the Liverpool-based CARINTHIA in November, where I remained as Crew Purser for the next five...

HISTORY - Traveling with airliner LZ 129 HINDENBURG was the most luxurious airtravel

The real airliner LZ 129 HINDENBURG enabled the most luxurious airtravel for decades. Imagine, gliding through the air while the landscape or the sea below can be seen ... Heritage - Boabdil the last Muslim King in Spain

Abu `Abd All āh Mohammed XII, the Spanish name him Boabdil, is the last Muslim king in Spain and at the very end of a 700 year lasting, most fruitful realm. Based on original research, and drawing attention to the connections between the medieval Moorish king Boabdil , actually Abu `Abd All āh Mohammed XII, and current social and political concerns in Europe today, Cambridge academic Elizabeth Drayson presents the first full account in any language of the Moorish sultan of Granada, and head of the Nasrid dynasty.
