You will be surprised by depth you will get.
Another term used to refer to the art of cold painting and gilding on the back of glass is the French term "verre églomisé", named after the French decorator Jean-Baptiste Glomy (1711-86), who framed prints using glass that has been reservese-painted. In German it is known as "Hinterglasmalerei".
Glas is a very special material which gives your home or office a special style of exclusivity.

This traditional technique of reverse painting on glass fell nearly to a complete oblivion after
WWI, but was used for decorating the ss NORMANDIE walls in several public
rooms, as the Grand Salon, Salon fumoir or Le Grand Salle á Manger Première
Classe. The artists have been Jean Dunand, Jean Dupas and René Lalique. And why not recreating a hint of that famous
vessels interior in your home?

After WWII it had nearly to be reinvented. The
painting on glass has become a natural selection for refurbishing a new house,
especially those built in a traditional rustic style. The style of painting and
especially the themes had to be varied and adjusted to new perceptions of the
world in modern times. Thus painting on glass started to become popular again
since the 1990s.

This art of reverse painting on glass has been around for many years. It
was widely used for sacral paintings since Middle Ages. The most famous was the
art of icons in the Byzantine Empire. Later the reverse painting on glass spread to Italy where in Venice it
influenced its Renaissance art. Since the middle of the 18th century, reverse painting on glass became favored by the Church and the
nobility throughout Central Europe.

Like traditional verre églomisé, proper direct
lighting is essential to produce the artist's intended effect. Modern reverse
paintings or printings on glas can be used as "lamp" in a room and
will create a very special effect.
