Expedition Cruises - Neubauten für HURTIGRUTEN

Heute hat HURTIGRUTEN in einer Pressemitteilung bekannt gegeben, dass sie bei KLEVEN VERFT in Ulsteinvik, Norwegen, den Vertrag für den Bau von zwei neuen Expeditions Kreuzfahrtschiffen unterzeichnet haben. Zugleich hat sich HURTIGRUTEN eine Option auf zwei weitere Schiffe gesichert. KLEVEN hat zuletzt (2002) die FINNMARKEN, als dritten Auftrag für HURTIGRUTEN gebaut. Das Design der neuen Kreuzfahrtschiffe stammt von ROLLS ROYCE Marine, wozu RR Marine seine integrierte "Small-Ship Plattform" genutzt hat.
Die beiden neuen Expeditionsschiffe sollen jeweils im Juni 2018 und 2019 an HURTIGRUTEN übergeben werden. Sie sind 140m Lang, 23m Breit, 5,3m Tiefgang und besitzen einen eisverstärkten Rumpf. Insgesamt 600 Passagiere werden auf jedem der Expedition Cruiser Platz finden.

Seit der NORDNORGE haben die Kabinen bei HURTIGRUTEN ihren "Fährencharme" etwas verloren, aber nicht unbedingt an Größe zugelegt. So werden, denn auch wieder Stockbetten (zwei Betten übereinander an einer Wand) Verwendung finden müssen
Für Kreuzfahrtgäste ist das bei dem geforderten Preis für eine Kreuzfahrt durch Norwegens Fjorde happig. Die gleichen Kabinen werden aber auch den "Kurz Reisenden" Norwegern angeboten, denn HURTIGRUTEN bedient nach wie vor die Postroute zwischen Bergen und Trondheim entlang der zerklüfteten Küste Norwegens. Die Passagiere werden, die von den neueren Schiffen bekannten, zwei Deck hohen Aussichtssalons (Lounge) an Bord der neuen Expedition Cruiser vorfinden. Darüber hinaus finden die Passagiere an Bord etwas neues vor - ein verglastes Vordeck, und freie Fläche. Das Mooring Deck (Festmach Deck) liegt darunter.

Das auffälligste Design Feature dieser Neubauten sind aber die fast senkrechten Steven, die mit nur sehr geringem Neigungswinkel zur Wasserlinie den Bug bilden. Damit erlangen die Expeditions Kreuzfahrtschiffe fast 140m Wasserlinie. Ein Umstand der ebenfalls zur Einsparung von Treibstoff hilft. Im Fachjargon heißte es platt: Länge läuft, oder besser, das Schiff segelt bei gleicher Breite mit einer längeren Wasserlinie und gleicher Motorleistung schneller, oder eben sparsamer.

The PACIFIC MAIL STEAMSHIP COMANY was existing for "just" one hundred years and was in her heydays a backbone for the development of the US West. The PACIFIC MAIL STEAMSHIP COMPANY was founded April 18, 1848, as a joint stock company under the laws of the State of New York by a group of New York City merchants, William H. Aspinwall , Edwin Bartlett, Henry Chauncey, Mr. Alsop, G.G. Howland and S.S. Howland. These merchants had acquired the right to transport mail under contract from the United States Government from the Isthmusof Panama to California awarded in 1847 to one Arnold Harris.
