Cruises - Carnivals Social Impact-Cruises are at end

Carnival announced that FATHOM (original meaning) (in meaning money) cruises is ceasing operations and ADONIA will return to P&O in 2017

Why so? My speculation that Social Engagerment in in the lower Middle Class, where Carnival is aiming for, and as John Maxtome-Graham in LINERS explained "Carnival is looking at the lower end of the food chain.", is not compatibel. Is it comming from the white supremacy thinking a belief most found in that class? I had been on board a CARNIVAL vessel in the Caribbean and could see this behavior with my own eyes - long before the outcome of the election of 2016. I was flabbergasted by the racism which flowed above all. I witnessed with my own ears comments not to be recalled.
Gene Sloan an american Cruise Journalist (USA today) wrote that the FATHOM concept did not work as not accepted by the targeted clientele.
Who wonders? Looking from abroad we see a social and mental divided country. A country more conservatice as you may expect, looking at the US American pragmatism, which is in first place a good thing. But sometime some more thinking would do good. Looking what impact my action, invention has for all, would be a good move. The election showed too there is a widespread egoism working in the US society, based on the economic status. Each year more and better. Financed by credit cards, not the income, which declined since Reagan significant. 1981 59% had been Middle Class in 2016 it had been only 51%. And to be Middle Class you need to have US$ 137,000 income. The Majority but has only US$ 40 to 50,000 per year (50%). The biggest melting of Middle Class happend allways with Republican Presidents since Reagan but could not be stoped by Democrat Presidents.

According to an AP story, Fathom cruises, the Carnival Cruise sub-brand, is having growing pains with its itineraries to the Dominican Republic and Cuba - cartoon cortesy AP
And then there is the coloured population and right these lower income members look down at the Hispanics and Blacks. And are jealous about those who had been able climbing into middle class or becoming affluent. Therefore too different unions - one for the Black and one for the White. And the later one mostly in the hands of the Mafia.
How on Earth could CARNIVAL really believe amoung therir clientele would be enough passengers filling each week a 780 pax vessel and cruise in the caribbean and doing for free and honor work for others, and have to pay for? And those who are willing to do such honorary work won´t ever sail with CARNIVAL. Or did they smell it is only a set up to cut money from those willing?
When I heard and read about FATHOM I could not believe CARNIVAL was trying to do, and if so, it will not work - as CARNIVAL and social consience or responsability are two different galaxies. As the distance of Andromeda to our galaxy the Milkstreet.
CARNIVAL declares despite the result of the FATHOM brand is a success and will implement this idea as a new shore experience on their other subsidiaries ships. My suggestion it will not work and even this kind of social engagement shore excursion will be ceased till the next season, as their guests won´t chose working for free. Wisely they implement this kind of of shore expursion in AIDA, COSTA, HOLLAND AMERICA, PRINCESS and P&O as these brands have more European customers/guests on board than the natively US American product CARNIVAL CRUISES. But I doubt a success even with the British oriented cruise lines. We have seen similar moves to short sighted egoism in UK with the BREXIT vote.
I mean not a general accusation, but it is a viewpoint, based on own experiencesand observations, and it is concerning me what is in general happening acctually. But the hip destination Cuba CARNIVAL won´t loose and it is rumored that a FANTASY class ship may take over the normal cruise destination.

HISTORY - The CUNARD - WHITE STAR Liner rms QUEEN ELIZABETH (1938-1972)

Over years, in my early youth, the QUEEN ELIZABETH was shaping my mind for the perfect ocean liner, despite having made my first experiences with a liner onboard the HANSEATIC (1), ex EMPRESS OF SCOTLAND, ex EMPRESS OF JAPAN. When leaning at the rail of HANSEATIC entering the port, my eyes where every where and I wished to by a camera, I took all in. And when seeing the QUEEN ELIZABETH with my own eyes, the nice behaving young boy turned into a tomboy, that my grandmére was no longer able to tame ... I did draw quite a lot of looks, back then. I found, while on research, this article and thought it interesting publishing in my blog: written and published by John Sheperd at liverpoolships.org editing and comments by Earl of Cruise I ( John Shepard ) joined the CUNARD LINE in March 1962 as an Assistant Purser and sailed the QUEEN ELIZABETH throughout that year, before transferring to the Liverpool-based CARINTHIA in November, where I remained as Crew Purser for the next five

Ocean Liners in Movies or Films at Sea (updated Nov 2017)

For liners and the shipping companies movies and films had been a top marketing tool Movies or Films and liners at sea, had been intriguing me since I have read about in my youth in LUXUSLINER - BILDER EINER GROSSEN ZEIT by Lee Server ( THE GOLDEN AGE OF OCEAN LINERS ). But earlier, mot only since my first crossing, I was keen watching movies with liners in it, and disapointed, which was an understatement, when I realized the films have been made in a set ashore in some movie "factory". That was after my first crossing.   by Earl of Cruise an essay in progress `Sabrina´, Humphrey Bogart in the office, while LIBERTÉ is sailing out of New York harbor - screenshot Ocean liners, especially those of the luxury category, had been the location of dramas, love stories, thrillers, suspense and catastrophies sinde film was born, or nearly. HISTORY - EUGENIO C. a masterpiece of Italian design and engineering

EUGENIO C., later EUGENIO COSTA, was a masterpiece of Italian design and is an example of beautifully integrated ship design. Her naval architect, Nicolò Costanzi, and her interior designer, Nino Zoncada, worked side by side, or hand in hand, to create a perfect balance and continuity between the vessel's interiors and the exterior profile. EUGENIO C. became a masterpiece of the 60s design and elegance. by Earl of Cruise Some readers had been asking for interior photographies ... here they are.   Eugenio C.
