Lifestyle and Luxury - ROLLS-ROYCE DAWN Awakens British Auto Design with a Land Yacht

The British Auto Design is awakend again in this ROLLS-ROYCE. The DAWN makes me compare it with a yacht or an elegant luxury liner from the high time of liner aera. It lines are classic and the finish is spotless. The name represents a tribute to the ROLLS-ROYCE SILVER DAWN from 1949 till 1955. It is British, as we all love it. The DAWN looks sophisticated as we expect from a British aristocrat.

There is only one thing not British, the owner: BMW. ROLLS-ROYCE, as the other crown jewels of British carmanufacturing, is sold to foreign owners ... TATA owns JAGUAR, VOLKSWAGEN owns BENTLEY, the MINI is a BMW ... but they are manufactured/produced in Great Britain!
This objet design needs a driver with some education, self-assurance and sophisticated behaviour, otherwise he is in danger of lifting up ... The ROLLS-ROYCE DAWN is like a classic sculpture sensuous formed of steel on wheels. Looks and onlookers are garanteed. And it may happen that you have to pave your way to your DAWN through a crowd of onlookers and those who made or want a selfie with your DAWN. The DAWN is as ROLLS-ROYCE claims, strikingly seductive. You must rest in your self centered for the DAWN.

Rolls-Royce’s cofounder Sir Henry Royce famously said, “Take the best that exists and make it better. When it does not exist, design it.” Extending that legacy is the interiors team behind the British automaker’s stunning new drophead ROLLS-ROYCE DAWN.
ROLLS-ROYCE DAWN

The DAWN´s four separate bucket seats are ensconced in wood and leather from the driver’s side, around the rear seats, and back up to the passenger side, creating a slingshot effect. With no disturbing fifth passenger in the middle, one can enjoy a pleasant ride on the Corniche, with the warm Mediterranean wind in your hair. Real wood, not any imitation of, and leather are nothing less than a must in a luxury car, such as the DAWN is. Those seats are then intersected by a full-length center console book-matched to chevron-pattern wood trays in the rear. “The high waistline of the exterior provided an excellent opportunity to accentuate the cosseting effect for the passengers in the rear compartment,” designer Alex Innes says. One glides with the DAWN as in a fortress of luxury and comfort over the plains of everyday life. And the high waistline is more like the wall of a Norman fortress against mediocrity.
ROLLS-ROYCE is a car manufacturer, not a car producer, with the help of the Bespoke team, that can create an exterior and interior that is matching your personality or what is inspiering you. Crests, initials, coat of arms or insignia can be embroided whereever you wish. The possibilities are limitedless, like in your own custom made yacht.
ROLLS-ROYCE DAWN
ROLLS-ROYCE DAWN custom made for the South Florida owner
A striking example of this customization recently debuted at the Concours d’Elegance in Pebble Beach, California, the premiere US auto showcase, in the form of the Nautical DAWN, a stunning one-off by interior design firm Barclay Butera. Its beachy theme - including a custom hand-wrapped navy steering wheel and a teak deck - was specifically designed to complement the oceanside residence of a South Florida client.
Being designed classic but moderate modern contemporary, distinguishes the DAWN from other forms of locomotion. This means, as a logical consequence, the the doors are hinged at their back. This makes the entering into the DAWN in an entrance, your entrance into your world and your way of living.

Nearly the "shocking red" of once BENTLEY´s Moulsane
It seems ordinary to mention the power of this sculture. The DAWN has a V12 (BMW N74) machine of 6.6 liters with 420 kW, enough to be adequately motorized and reach the 100km/h mark after 4,9 sec. But why to be hasty in such an auto? In terms of driving comfort, there is only one comparable automobile, la Deesse from Citroën. But la voiture is another story to be told.

Thanks to the hydropneumatic suspension, la Deesse drove over the rough streets of life ...
The DAWN’s audio components make up what is perhaps the most exhaustively designed automotive hi-fi system ever developed: 16 individually-tuned speakers, with both theater and studio settings, combine with a highly sensitive microphone that constantly monitors ambient exterior noise to subtly adjust the volume and tone settings, making it equally effective with the cloth roof open or closed. Instrument dials include applied polished metal chaplets and matte chrome centers - just like a handmade wristwatch.
ROLLS-ROYCE DAWN

The DAWN was also developed to take full advantage of ROLLS-ROYCE’s legendary bespoke shop, particularly it’s artful use of leather - which ROLLS-ROYCE only sources since ages from bulls raised on open ranges at high altitudes to eliminate marks from insects or barbed wire - and impeccable woodwork.
The only item left to add is the automaker’s prized bespoke picnic basket. Taking over 500 hours to create, the hamper is forged from a combination of saddle leather, oiled teak, and polished aluminum. Folding out its piano-black tables reveal crystal wine glasses and decanters handmade by the Ajka Crystal factory, along with Wedgwood porcelain plates. “The materials we use in every Rolls-Royce Motor car are the most luxurious in the world,” Innes concludes. “The design challenge is to weave them together in a subliminal manner - we make every effort to avoid complicating the environment visually. We are not a brand prone to revolution.
For possessing a DAWN you need a bit of play money to buy, otherwise you better take your beer bag and climb your rowboat ... Otherwise, welcome onboard.

Ocean Liners in Movies or Films at Sea (updated Nov 2017)

For liners and the shipping companies movies and films had been a top marketing tool Movies or Films and liners at sea, had been intriguing me since I have read about in my youth in LUXUSLINER - BILDER EINER GROSSEN ZEIT by Lee Server ( THE GOLDEN AGE OF OCEAN LINERS ). But earlier, mot only since my first crossing, I was keen watching movies with liners in it, and disapointed, which was an understatement, when I realized the films have been made in a set ashore in some movie "factory". That was after my first crossing.   by Earl of Cruise an essay in progress `Sabrina´, Humphrey Bogart in the office, while LIBERTÉ is sailing out of New York harbor - screenshot Ocean liners, especially those of the luxury category, had been the location of dramas, love stories, thrillers, suspense and catastrophies sinde film was born, or nearly. HISTORY - The CUNARD - WHITE STAR Liner rms QUEEN ELIZABETH (1938-1972)

Over years, in my early youth, the QUEEN ELIZABETH was shaping my mind for the perfect ocean liner, despite having made my first experiences with a liner onboard the HANSEATIC (1), ex EMPRESS OF SCOTLAND, ex EMPRESS OF JAPAN. When leaning at the rail of HANSEATIC entering the port, my eyes where every where and I wished to by a camera, I took all in. And when seeing the QUEEN ELIZABETH with my own eyes, the nice behaving young boy turned into a tomboy, that my grandmére was no longer able to tame ... I did draw quite a lot of looks, back then. I found, while on research, this article and thought it interesting publishing in my blog: written and published by John Sheperd at liverpoolships.org editing and comments by Earl of Cruise I ( John Shepard ) joined the CUNARD LINE in March 1962 as an Assistant Purser and sailed the QUEEN ELIZABETH throughout that year, before transferring to the Liverpool-based CARINTHIA in November, where I remained as Crew Purser for the next five...

HISTORY - The Monster-ships that changed how we Travel at Sea

Our present days sea travel, with its `luxuries´ started with the Monster-ships after the turn from 19th to 20th century, and technical progress and innovations made us think "unbeatable" at sea ... This hybris and belive in the technological progress was destroyed when the TITANIC sank after its encounter off Newfoundland with an iceberg. HISTORY - EUGENIO C. a masterpiece of Italian design and engineering

EUGENIO C., later EUGENIO COSTA, was a masterpiece of Italian design and is an example of beautifully integrated ship design. Her naval architect, Nicolò Costanzi, and her interior designer, Nino Zoncada, worked side by side, or hand in hand, to create a perfect balance and continuity between the vessel's interiors and the exterior profile. ss NORMANDIE 1935-1942 XII - The Most Beautiful Ocean Liner Ever Built

For many, or should I say for "a great many" Ocean Liner Lovers, NORMANDIE is the most beautiful liner ever built. Me, I am among those aficionados.   NORMANDIE was technically decades ahead of time. The vessel got implemented technologies that would have been copied by others, who then claimed to be the first to have. Alternative facts are not a modern days invention of a certain chrétien and his backward oriented entourage ... NORMANDIE´s interior was the peak of ART DECO in France, and was, still is, the peak of chic. Never again any liner, or passenger vessel, except NIEUW AMSTERDAM had been designed exterior and interior that strict in the "guide lines" of the ART DECO (Link in German) movement - as ART DECO is "only" a movement and not a school like BAUHAUS . Therefore the style was in a permanent "move" and development. NORMANDIE, the perfect ocean liner, Le Vaisseau de Lumière, Le Deesse de la Mer - courtsey coloured by Dary...
