Es ist lange so etwas wie eine "Kreuzfahrt Light" gewesen. Die Seebäder Schifffahrt hat eine lange Tradition in der deutschen Seefahrt. Wir haben zwar nur eine Hochseeinsel - Helgoland, aber lange Küstenlinien, viele Inseln und schließlich es gab auch die Seebäderschiffe in der Ostsee. Aus der Notwendigkeit des Transportes von Menschen und Waren entlang der deutschen Küsten, wurde im Laufe der Geschichte ein touristisches Produkt. Wer kann sich nicht an die "Butterfahrten" erinnern (die älteren Semester sicher), die von der EU verboten wurden ...
Und es gab das eine oder andere unglückliche Experiment, weil im rauhen Winterklima zu wenig Gäste "auf die Hochsee" wollten ...
 
 
 

Die WAPPENVON HAMBURG I (1955) wird in den USA wieder in Californien restauriert und soll wieder im "alten Glanz" zur See gehen.

Die WAPPEN VON HAMBURG II in Charter als JATTEN FINN (eig. Sammlung)
Die WAPPENVON HAMBURG II 1962 lag lange in Haifa aufgelegt als SUPPER CLUB2 und wartete auf einen Interessenten, der zu einer Luxusyacht umbauen lassen will. Sie wurde 2014 schließlich in  OKRA SULTAN umbenannt und in Aliağa abgewrackt.

Die WAPPEN VON HAMBURG III (1965) hat es "hinter sich". Die Finanz- und Wirtschaftskrise von 2007/08 "zerlegte" den Eigner des Schiffes, Alexander Kalakis, der sie zu seinem schwimmenden Heim machen lassen wollte. Und weil das Schiff nur noch als Rumpf existierte und sich kein Käufer fand wurde der Rest, bzw. Rumpf, verschrottet. 
Der Versuch aus dem Schiff noch ein kleines exklusives High-End Kreuzfahrtschiff zu machen, zerschlug sich an der Haltung der Kredit gebenden ROYAL BANK of SCOTLAND, die sich auch mit den anderen Schulden des ursprünglichen Eigentümers "herumschlagen" musste. Potentielle Charterer standen hingegen in den Startlöchern.

Over years, in my early youth, the QUEEN ELIZABETH was shaping my mind for the perfect ocean liner, despite having made my first experiences with a liner onboard the HANSEATIC (1), ex EMPRESS OF SCOTLAND, ex EMPRESS OF JAPAN. When leaning at the rail of HANSEATIC entering the port, my eyes where every where and I wished to by a camera, I took all in. HISTORY - PACIFIC MAIL STEAMSHIP COMPANY

The PACIFIC MAIL STEAMSHIP COMANY was existing for "just" one hundred years and was in her heydays a backbone for the development of the US West. The PACIFIC MAIL STEAMSHIP COMPANY was founded April 18, 1848, as a joint stock company under the laws of the State of New York by a group of New York City merchants, William H. Aspinwall , Edwin Bartlett, Henry Chauncey, Mr. Alsop, G.G. Howland and S.S. Howland. These merchants had acquired the right to transport mail under contract from the United States Government from the Isthmusof Panama to California awarded in 1847 to one Arnold Harris.
