Luxury cruises and luxury travel

Market researches show, the luxury cruise and luxury travel market is booming.
by Earl of Cruise
For travel agencies and concierge travel agencies the luxury travel market is a secure bank, and the demand is still rising. And the customers are open to all offers - despite a new destination or a classic.
"Since years the luxury segment is a growing market, but with a very narrow target clientel. The purchasing power is growing and with that the needs, to spend oneself in leisuretime the best you can get," said Steffen Boehnke, Brand COO at AIRTOURS (TUI divission).

Several international research companies, for trade as well touristic, published in the last time period a number of results with one conclusion - the demand for luxury travel products is steadily growing.
The German tour operator DESIGN REISEN experiences a growing of 30% for 2016. Similar with the luxury division of DERTOUR (subsidiary of the German grossist REWE), DERTOUR DeLuxe. THOMAS COOK SIGNATURE and THOMAS COOK SIGNATURE FINEST SELCTION, a rather new brand of THOMAS COOK, see the same climbing in bookings.
There is no definite destination to be seen, where the luxury customers want travel to - they go everywhere. And if there are new luxury offers in a new destination, with new and exceptional new offers for them, the demand is "springing up". Actually to be seen in SRI LANKA since ANANTARA, of MINOR INTERNATIONAL, and SHANGRI-LA did discover SRI LANKA as their target.

The lust to travel is still unbrocken! It seems as if there are no frontiers ...
And everybody can see the rising of orders, and new vessels for the luxury and top end market - Business is good for the luxury cruise operators.

The market leader in luxury expedition cruises, LE PONANT, just ordered four new 10,000 GT vessels for their fleet of expedition cruise ships. SCENIC, the Australian luxury tour operator for deluxe cruisers on the rivers, just ordered his first ocean going expedition cruise yacht. CRYSTALCRUISES, recently bought bei the GENTING GROUP, and known for its luxury cruises on the Seven Seas, ordered froom the own GENTING shipbuilder - MVWERFTEN, three 100,000 GT giants for 1,000 guests and 1,000 crew, with ice class. And to top this, CRYSTAL signed inhouse a construction for a 25,000 GT,200 guest super luxury yacht especially for expeditions. HAPAG-LLYOD, the self claimed market leader of luxury cruising, ordered two new vessels for destination and exploring cruises for 240 guests on board. SILVERSEA, after purchasing the SILVER EXPLORER, first named with them PRINCE ALBERT II., bought some more expedition cruse vessel, rebuild them and send them as SILVERSEA quality ships on expedition cruises. With the coming SILVER MUSE, in April 2017, they claimed to set new standards, as REGENT SEVEN SEAS did with the introction of the "world most luxuriest vessel of the world". This I doubt, as 750 guests in maximum will be served by 552 crew in max. And SILVERSEA anounced their departures in 2017 to be combined with a bus transfer to port of embarkation - from Germany!?! (A-rating: plus, B-rating: clearly a minus for the bus!)

The most of the new ordered luxury cruise vessel are smaller than the average cruise vessel for the mass market. And these smaller vessels, even the monstrous CRYSTAL 1000,000 GT, 1,000 guest vessels can reach - by anchoring offshore - small destinations as Portofino or Bonifacio in the Mediterranean. And with these fewer passengers, the city businesses earn more than with the masses from the common volumers ...
Karl J. Pojer, CEO of HAPAG-LLOYD CRUISES stated:
"Especially those routings with a mix of must-have-ports and those small, exceptionel ports, are on demand."

What is a luxury cruise or a luxury voyage?
The luxury travel since a long time is no longer the typical luxury hotel vacation. The focus is no longer in the opulence of the property, it is the first class service and treatment, what the luxury customer is asking for.
This demand is different as the customer itself.

The luxury tour operators and concierge travel agencies are specialised to served their customers wishes and whims. Primarily this clientele is asking for à-la-carte "solutions" and offers - tailor made! As for the super yachts, and cars - custom-made. E.g., a friend of mine, a lady, bought a TESLA and changed the colour to pink ... chaque un à son ... goût ...
It is the experience what is counting. And these are fanned out wide. From the "normal luxury" offer to the individually tailored travel and cruise. Expedition cruises to the farthest corner of the earth, to destinations only accessable only be ship, family specials, private diner in the desert - with a chief, a night or more in an elephant camp or a wildlife park, combined with a city trip for a contrating visit of an opera performance or theatre show. A trip to Asia, with stop over in Tokio, visiting the three rated Michelin chief Jiro Ono, in his Sukiyabashi Jiro, and then off to Kamchatka. Or having an exclusive meeting and diner Placido Domingo. But too getting known to locals and their live and cuisine. Such I designed for a couple in the Sychelles. Or a night visit in the closed PRADO will be arranged and the gusts can discover the museum, guided, without disturbing onlookers in the night.
What those customers of the luxury clientele expect is minimum a business or better a first class flight, VIP service, limousine included, fast clearance of Visas and customs and a private tour guide. This for the cruise guests as well those which don´t go on cruise.
SEA DREAM of SEA DREAM YACHT CLUB CRUISES - Source: Wikipedia (orginal seize)
SEADREAM YACHT CLUB CRUISES offers its guests for example a winery diner, where the wine producer is on board and gives not only insider tipps, but too takes them on tour to his wine yard. Such an offer can´t be made for a greater number, or all guest on board ...
Luxus is defined the more and more and by "being and doing", and no longer by having, and showing off.
But is there a frontier? No, not even with the price ...
And all please the most enviromental saving as possible!

Liners - Can classic ocean liners make a comeback

Classic ocean liners, crossing the oceans, had been for long time the only way to cross the seas. A comeback of ocean liners for real? When in 2010 the Islandic volcano Eyjafjallajökull did errupt, and all flights that would come near his ash-clouds had to be cancelled, people had been trapped on each side of the pond ... And immidiately all available cabins on containerships had been booked, cruise vessels sailing either to the Americas or Europe had been flodded by desperate travellers to get to their destination ... Going by ship was in those days the only way to cross. It did show a certain, but temporary neccessity of liner traffic. But unfortunately we did not have any longer a frequent crossing possibility by ship - Transatlantic liners, liners per se had gone, gone with the wind of history and technical progress in air flight. The modern Black Gang

Stewardesses and Stewards are the modern " BlackGang " by Earl of Cruise  Stokers on board USS MASSACHUSETS - source Wikipedia The men working in the bowels of the steamers had been named Black Gang. these where those men with the hardest labour - bringing the coal form the bunkers to the furnasses and filling them. This ardous labour became obsolete, when the steamer and turbine furnasses became oil fired - cleaner, fewer men and no longer heat and coal dust drenched air. The living conditions, when free from their shifts, had been similar ardous - cramped sleeping rooms, no light and less air, and few washing rooms and toilets. The loan was less than acceptable. HISTORY - ss LA BOURGOGNE - Women and Children last

What had happend on sinking LA BOURGOGNE? Why had been so few women and children been rescued ? by João Martins , editing by Earl of Cruise ss LA BOURGOGNE - editors collection From our viewpoint of today we see this disaster of ss LA BOURGOGNE as one of egoism and the right of the stronger, with no "heroism", or stepping back for the weak to be saved. And we blame the crew for not doing their duty ... Are we allowed to judge? Are we allowed to chide? Are we alowed to claime it as typical ... for the seamanship of France - I have heard and read so! - ?  No, we have not been on board.  This tragedy is not the place to be chauvinistic! And looking in todays world we see a lot of chauvinism again and egoism! The ss LA BOURGOGNE was a 7,395 GRT French ocean liner built by the FCM in Toulon for the Transatlatic mail and passenger service of Cie. Gle. TRANSATLANTIQUE and completed in 1886. Heritage - Austrian and Hungarian immigrants in USA

Austrian and Hungarian immigrants contributed immense to the US culture and economy. America, after its re-discovering by Christopher Columbus in 1492, was the first place of Austrian and Hungarian to immigrate to. It was the land of hope and possibilities, and the young USA, as the former colony, needed immigrants ... and these immigrants found vast opportunities in a country that was more or less "empitied" of humans, after the first contact with Europeans, and their, unknown to the indigen population and themselves, biological weapons - diseases for that the American natives had nothing to fight against, as they had been unknown to them, after eons of "isolation". by Earl of Cruise Emmigrants in the BALLIN STADT, a center for emmigrants initiated by Albert Ballin, after Cholera epidemiic in Hamburg 1892 - Source: BALLIN STADT Although some estimates suggest that the numbers of Austrians in the United States have represented less than one tenth of 1 p...

HISTORY - The Royal Mail Ship TAHITI

While researching for some Tahiti and French Polynesia related articles, I came across this Wikipedia article about a small, lesser known steamship, which served as a "mail boat" in the South Pacific - rms TAHITI . editing by Earl of Cruise Beside the big liners on the main routes, especially the North Atlantic, on "side routes", which had been and are important for the international trade, we find countless numbers of ships. These smaller, unimpressive ones are the back-bones of each shipping entity. Most of these vessels had been combined passenger and freight liners - so PORT KINGSTON, later TAHITI. For its last owner the vessel sailed across the Pacific from Sydney to California and back. rms TAHITI sailing the Pacific - Source: Wikipedia TAHITI was a 7,585 ton ocean liner operated by the UNION STEAMSHIP COMPANY OF NEW ZEALAND . Luxury Lifestyle - An amazingly large number of 386,144 star hotels exist worldwide

No less than 386,144 star rated hotels worldwide are waiting for their guests. This is the result of the latest study by DELTA CHECK, operator of the world's largest hotel database. The unexpectedly high number amazes even seasoned hotel experts. Among these star rated hotels are 19,390 in the 5star range! Seeing todays cruise companies trying to get a share in the highest revenue creating market segment is normal. The mass market companies can not create the revenue they need that easy in the lower end of the "food chain". The real money in the hospitality industry is created in the luxury end. But refering to hospitality ratings - there is no such thing as a 6star or 7star rating! It is a "dairy tale" or "alternative fact" labeling a luxury/luxurious product more than 5stars. The rating for the top high end luxury is 5star, eventually with an added "+". by Earl of Cruise CAPE ROYALE Luxury hotel in Capetown - courtesy Hotels.co...

HISTORY - The CUNARD - WHITE STAR Liner rms QUEEN ELIZABETH (1938-1972)

Over years, in my early youth, the QUEEN ELIZABETH was shaping my mind for the perfect ocean liner, despite having made my first experiences with a liner onboard the HANSEATIC (1), ex EMPRESS OF SCOTLAND, ex EMPRESS OF JAPAN. When leaning at the rail of HANSEATIC entering the port, my eyes where every where and I wished to by a camera, I took all in. And when seeing the QUEEN ELIZABETH with my own eyes, the nice behaving young boy turned into a tomboy, that my grandmére was no longer able to tame ... I did draw quite a lot of looks, back then. I found, while on research, this article and thought it interesting publishing in my blog: written and published by John Sheperd at liverpoolships.org editing and comments by Earl of Cruise I ( John Shepard ) joined the CUNARD LINE in March 1962 as an Assistant Purser and sailed the QUEEN ELIZABETH throughout that year, before transferring to the Liverpool-based CARINTHIA in November, where I remained as Crew Purser for the next five...
