The public demand for destination intensive cruises brought AZAMARA CLUB CRUISES in trouble ... and two ships had not been enough for the growing demand. But AZAMARA of course did not look for any vessel, but a sister, and with that comparable to the existing cruise vessels.

The new AZAMARA vessel was originally built under the name of R8 as the last R-class ship for RENAISSANCE CRUISES. In 2001, the ship was put into service, but only a few months later, following the bankruptcy of the cruise shipping company, it was offered for sale. In 2003, the ship was sold to the British shipping company SWAN HELLENIC and put in Marseille into service as MINERVA II. She was not really welcomed by SWAN HELLENIC´s customers, as too big, compared to the previous vessels and "too luxurious". Her interior was a total contrast to the previous, originally EPIROTIKI LINES and ROYAL OLYMPIC CRUISES´s ships to which the guests had been "used" to. On April 7th, 2007 she made her last trip under this name and was sold to PRINCESS CRUISES and renamed ROYAL PRINCESS. On 21 May 2011, the ship was finally sold to P&O CRUISES and in a ceremonial ceremony christened by Shirley Bassey as ADONIA. From April 2016, ADONIA was used under the FATHOM brand. However, this brand was abandoned in the summer of 2017 and the ADONIA returned to P&O CRUISES. FATHOM was a vein CARNIVAL attempt offering social engagement cruises - a trend from high end customers, not transferable to the typical CARNIVAL clientele.

"We are pleased to expand our portfolio, allowing us to visit even more regions of the world through the acquisition of this sister ship," said Larry Pimentel, President and CEO of AZAMARA CLUB CRUISES. "Our loyal guests and travel partners have asked for this expansion for a long time; we are very pleased to deliver this to them." The new addition, AZAMARA PURSUIT, is comparable in size to the other two AZAMARA ships, which allows visits to unique ports that larger ships are unable to reach.

Together, the three ships will support the brand’s commitment to enrich what AZAMARA calls “destination immersion “ around the world, by staying longer in port and to allow guests to experience more.
The ship’s décor of course will be updated to match the brand’s luxury look with the feel of a boutique hotel at sea. Information about deployment and itineraries for Azamara Pursuit will be available in October.

Ocean Liners in Movies or Films at Sea (updated Nov 2017)

For liners and the shipping companies movies and films had been a top marketing tool Movies or Films and liners at sea, had been intriguing me since I have read about in my youth in LUXUSLINER - BILDER EINER GROSSEN ZEIT by Lee Server ( THE GOLDEN AGE OF OCEAN LINERS ). But earlier, mot only since my first crossing, I was keen watching movies with liners in it, and disapointed, which was an understatement, when I realized the films have been made in a set ashore in some movie "factory". That was after my first crossing.   by Earl of Cruise an essay in progress `Sabrina´, Humphrey Bogart in the office, while LIBERTÉ is sailing out of New York harbor - screenshot Ocean liners, especially those of the luxury category, had been the location of dramas, love stories, thrillers, suspense and catastrophies sinde film was born, or nearly. HISTORY - The CUNARD - WHITE STAR Liner rms QUEEN ELIZABETH (1938-1972)

Over years, in my early youth, the QUEEN ELIZABETH was shaping my mind for the perfect ocean liner, despite having made my first experiences with a liner onboard the HANSEATIC (1), ex EMPRESS OF SCOTLAND, ex EMPRESS OF JAPAN. When leaning at the rail of HANSEATIC entering the port, my eyes where every where and I wished to by a camera, I took all in.
