Where life is absolutely worth living! Your port of embarkation, a coastal seaport city in Canada, located in the Lower Mainland region of British Columbia. Vancouver is a Beta global city. Vancouver is consistently named as one of the top five worldwide cities for livability and quality of life. Vancouver has hosted many international conferences and events, including the 2010 Winter Olympics and Paralympics which were held in Vancouver and Whistler. The 19th century town site was made the rail head of the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR), to take advantage of its large natural seaport to the Pacific Ocean. Vancouver soon became a vital link in a trade route between the Orient / East Asia, Eastern Canada, and Europe. Vancouver is well known as an urban centre surrounded by nature, making tourism its second-large business. Major film production studios in Vancouver and nearby Burnaby have turned Greater Vancouver and nearby areas into one of the largest film production centres in North America, earning it the nickname, "Hollywood North". Quite a number of modern say TV shows depicting the typical US urbanity are the streets of Vancouver.
Sail away is approximately at 18:00 (6pm).
At sea Transiting/Cruising the Seymore Narrows
SEABOURN SOJOURN will leave in the early evening Vancouver for the Inner Passage. Protected from the open sea by forested isles, starboard you will see Vancouver Island, sheltered from the windy
mainland by the tallest coastal mountains in the world, this 1,000-mile
waterway seems custom-made by nature for a cruise. The deep, calm
waters of the passage meander between dense pine forests where wild game
abounds, with occasional rustic towns along the way.
Seymour Narrows is a 5 km (3.1 sm) section of the Discovery Passage in British Columbia known for strong tidal currents. Discovery Passage lies between Vancouver Island at Menzies Bay, British Columbia and Quadra Island except at its northern end where the eastern shoreline is Sonora Island. The section known as Seymour Narrows begins about 18 km (11 sm) from the south end of Discovery Passage where it enters the Georgia Strait near Campbell River. For most of the length of the narrows, the channel is about 750 m wide. Through this narrow channel, currents can reach 15 kts.
Cast off! Sailing through the Inside Passage north to
Ketchikan, your first shore leave. You are hopefully accompanied by a
lot of sunshine and a fantastic sunset and definitely a wonderful
landscape.

Ketchikan (ˈkɛtʃɪkæn, KETCH-ih-kan) - (Tlingit: Kichx̱áan) is a city in the Ketchikan Gateway Borough, Alaska, United States, the southeasternmost city in Alaska.
The Tlingit are those who lived in this area, long before we "white men" came into this part of the world.
Ketchikan is named after Ketchikan Creek, which flows through the town, emptying into the Tongass Narrows a short distance southeast of its downtown. "Ketchikan" comes from the Tlingit name for the creek, Kitschk-hin,
the meaning of which is unclear. It may mean "the river belonging to
Kitschk"; other accounts claim it means "Thundering Wings of an Eagle". Ketchikan Creek served as a summer fish camp for Tlingit natives
for untold years before the town was established by Mike Martin in
1885. Naughty trivia: the area near the mouth of Ketchikan Creek later earned Ketchikan a
measure of infamy during the first half of the 20th century for a red-light district known as Creek Street, with brothels aligned on either side of the creek. Further trivia: according to the U.S. Postal Service, one of Ketchikan's two zip codes, 99950, is the highest-numbered in the United States.
Ketchikan's economy is based upon government services, tourism and
commercial fishing. Civic boosters have dubbed the community the "Salmon Capital of the World." The Misty Fiords National Monument is one of the area's major attractions, and the Tongass National Forest has long been headquartered in Ketchikan, mostly in the city's historic Federal Building. For most of the latter half of the 20th century, a large portion of Ketchikan's economy and life centered on the Ketchikan Pulp Companypulp mill in nearby Ward Cove.
The mill closed in 1997 in the wake of the passage of the Tongass
Timber Reform Act of 1990, which reduced timber harvest targets in the
national forest.Ketchikan has the world's largest collection of standing totem poles, found throughout the city and at four major locations: Saxman Totem Park, Totem Bight State Park, Potlatch Park, and the Totem Heritage Center.
Most of the totems at Saxman Totem Park and Totem Bight State Park are
recarvings of older poles, a practice that began during the Roosevelt Administration through the Civilian Conservation Corps. The Totem Heritage Center displays preserved 19th-century poles rescued from abandoned village sites near Ketchikan.
Congress reserved the remainder for the Quartz Hill molybdenum deposit, possibly the largest such mineral deposit in the world. The national monument was originally proclaimed by President Jimmy Carter in December 1978 as Misty Fiords National Monument, using the authorization of the Antiquities Act
and became a part of an ongoing political struggle between the federal
government and the State of Alaska over land use policy and authority
that finally led to the Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act in 1980. In that law, it was statutorily established as Misty Fjords National Monument.

The City and Borough of Wrangell, as the name indicated is a Russian foundation of 1834 by Ferdinand von Wrangel, a Russian aristocrat and explorer of German ancestry, originated in the Baltic. Ferdinand Petrovich Wrangel, was back then also the administrator of the Russian-American Company from 1830 to 1835.
The Tlingit people residing in the Wrangell area, who were there centuries before Europeans (Tlingit: Ḵaachx̱aana.áakʼw). Wrangell is a borough in the U.S. state of Alaska. The Tlingit call themselves the Shtaxʼhéen Ḵwáan after the nearby Stikine River. Alternately they use the autonymShxʼát Ḵwáan, where the meaning of shxʼát is unknown.
Being located on Wrangell island, Wrangell has two basics forms of
transportation: ferry, the Alaska Marine Highway and also on the summer Inter-Island Ferry Authority's STIKINE as well airplane. While on the island, a network of
paved roads and multiple miles of logging trails remain.
2,308 people, 907 households, and 623 families residing in Wrangell.
Wrangell is located on the northern tip of Wrangell Island, an island in the Alaska Panhandle. It is 155 miles (250 km) south of the Alaskan capital of Juneau. It is across the narrow Zimovia Strait from the mouth of the Stikine River on the Alaska mainland.

until 1867, when Alaska was purchased by the United States, when Russia
lost "its interest" in this part of the world. Russia was facing a

Tracy Arm-Fords Terror Wilderness contains 653,179 acres (2,643.32 km²)
and consists of two deep and narrow fjords: Tracy Arm and Endicott Arm.
Both fjords are over 30 miles (48 km) long and one-fifth of their area
is covered in ice. During the summer, the fjords have considerable
floating ice ranging from hand-sized to pieces as large as a three-story
building. During the most recent glaciated period, both fjords were filled with active glaciers.
On your Alaskan luxury cruise to Haines you pass Seduction Point. This is a classic trail that can be easy or difficult, depending on how far you
go - but you will see it, you won´t go ashore.
The easy section attracts many local families looking for a nice
walk to the beach, wild strawberry picking, and outstanding views of
glaciers. On this section, you’ll meander past giant Sitka Spruce trees,
cross over bogs filled with skunk cabbage, and find yourself in sunny
openings filled with thimbleberry bushes and birch trees. It’s about a
mile to the first beach, Moose Meadows. From mid-June to mid-July, the
meadow is filled with wildflowers - wild iris, chocolate lilies, red
columbine, and beach pea. Past the meadow are shale-like uplifted rocks,
a small pebble cove, and views of the Davidson Glacier at Glacier
Points and the hanging Rainbow Glacier.
Bears are known to travel this area, so keep a head’s up and look out for "teddies".
The area around present-day Haines was called Dtehshuh or "end of the trail" by the Chilkat group of Tlingit. It received this name because they could portage (carry) their canoes from the trail they used to trade with the interior, which began at the outlet of the Chilkat River, to Dtehshuh and save 20 miles (32 km) of rowing around the Chilkat Peninsula.
The first European, George Dickinson, an agent for the North West Trading Company, settled at Dtehshuh in 1870. In 1881, the Chilkat asked Sheldon Jackson to send missionaries to the area. Samuel Hall Young, a Presbyterian
minister, was sent. He built the Willard mission and school at
Dtehshuh, on land given the church by the Chilkat. The mission was
renamed "Haines" in 1884 in honor of Francina E. Haines, the chairwoman of the committee that raised funds for its construction.
In the autumn of 1881, George Dickinson happened to meet the German brothers Aurel Krause and Arthur Krause, who had just visited the coasts and coastal areas of the Chukchi Peninsula between Uelen at Cape Deshnyov and Providenija Bay in the south on behalf of the Geographical Society in Bremen, and invited them to spend the upcoming winter in their trading quarters in Alaska in order to experience the culture there. As a result, the Krauses changed their travel plans and went to Chilkoot at the northern end of the Lynn Canal in Alaska, where Dickinson also had a trading post. Aurel Krause remained in South Alaska until April 1882 and was mainly engaged in ethnological fieldwork, including natural and geographical observations. In his 1885 basic work The Tlinkit had been first comprehensively described by Aurel Krause, their customs, religion and language.
The Klondike Gold Rush
of 1898–1899 changed the region greatly. The population of the area
reached 30,000, composed largely of Americans. Haines grew as a supply
center, since the Dalton Trail from Chilkat Inlet offered a route to the Yukon
for prospectors. Gold was also discovered 36 miles (58 km) from Haines
in 1899 at the Porcupine District. During this time the name "Haines"
came into use for the area around the mission and not for just the
mission itself.
The city is named after the Canadian gold prospector from Quebec, Joe Juneau. The original Tlingit name of the town is Dzántik'i Héeni ("Base of the Flounder’s River", dzánti ‘flounder’, –kʼi ‘base’, héen ‘river’), and Auke Bay just north of Juneau proper is called Áak'w ("Little lake", áa ‘lake’, -kʼ ‘diminutive’) in Tlingit. The Taku River, just south of Juneau, was named after the cold t'aakh
wind, which occasionally blows down from the mountains. Long before
white man arrived, the Auks, part of Tlingit, the Natives, had summer
homes and harvested the area's rich natural resources.
Juneau is rather unusual among U.S. capitals (except Honolulu, Hawaii)
in that there are no roads connecting the city to the rest of Alaska or
to the rest of North America (although ferry service is available for
cars). So, not really the location for a `road movie´. The absence of a road network is due to the extremely rugged
terrain surrounding the city. This in turn makes Juneau a de facto
island city in terms of transportation, since all goods coming in and
out must go by plane or boat, in spite of the city being located on the
Alaskan mainland. Downtown Juneau sits at sea level, with tides
averaging 16 feet (5 m), below steep mountains about 3,500 feet
(1,100 m) to 4,000 feet (1,200 m) high. Atop these mountains is the Juneau Icefield, a large ice mass from which about 30 glaciers flow; two of these, the Mendenhall Glacier
and the Lemon Creek Glacier,
are visible from the local road system.
The global warming has its impact already, the Mendenhall Glacier, as
the Lemon Creek Glacier, has been gradually retreating; its front face
is
declining both in width and height. It may be an interesting visit at
the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center.
The Indian Islands are a group of scenic islands located in the frigid
waters of Icy Strait. They lie between the northern tip of Chichagof Island and Glacier Bay National Park. They are included as part of the
Tongass National Forest and are renowned for the forest of stunted trees
that are the result of extreme ocean weather. In 1990, the federal
government recognized the islands’ pristine condition and ecological,
geological, and scenic, values, by declaring them a Wilderness area
under the federal Wilderness Act, and is managed by the Forest Service.
The pleasant Indian Islands Wilderness can only be accessed
by floatplane, motor or paddle boat, and is strategically managed to
preserve the undeveloped ecosystem for the enjoyment of present and
future generations.
Surrounded by towering rainforest and the abundant waters of Port Frederick and Icy Strait, Icy Strait Point
is a destination that offers unparalleled access to adventure,
wilderness, wildlife, and genuine Native Tlingit hospitality. Located in
Alaska’s largest Native Tlingit village of Hoonah (about 35 miles west
of Juneau), Icy Strait Point features 20+ exciting tours, a restored
1912 Alaska salmon cannery and museum, nature trails, restaurants, 100%
Alaskan-owned retail shops, and even a beach! Eagles soar overhead and
whales are regularly seen from the shore. When you arrive at Icy Strait
Point, you will immediately find yourself immersed in the Alaska that
you’ve always dreamed of.
Icy Strait Point is a very popular part of many Alaskan luxury cruises and renowned for its exemplary responsible tourism
practices and has received numerous awards since opening. Owned and
